Abstract

Introduction. Percheron's artery is an anatomical variant of central nervous system irrigation, being specifically a single trunk that originates in the posterior cerebral artery and supplies the thalamic territory through its branches in both hemispheres. Infarction of this artery is an atypical presentation of ischemic stroke, the main clinical manifestations are related to thalamic hypoxia, although there is no pattern. The present report demonstrates a Percheron art infarction in a young female patient, without comorbidities, admitted to the emergency room with complaints of excessive sleepiness, blurred vision, and vertigo, progressing with worsening in the intensity of symptoms. The patient was treated with different antiplatelet/anticoagulation regimens throughout her hospital stay, with complete improvement of symptoms after 2 days. Objective. To report a case of Percheron Infarction in a young female patient. Method. Case study of a young patient with previous acute neurological symptoms. Data and information analysis was performed through medical records and image exams. Results. The patient improved throughout the treatment and was referred for secondary evaluation for etiological investigation. Conclusion. There was a positive outcome with the use of nuclear magnetic resonance for the diagnosis of therapy with full anticoagulation.
