Introduction. Visual convergence is critical for near vision activities. Objective. To evaluate the occurrence of convergence insufficiency in young adults and the characterization of daily habits related to visual health. Method. This is a study characterized by being descriptive, cross-sectional, and approached quantitatively. For the data collections, the forms containing the sociodemographic information, the convergence insufficiency symptomatology survey (CISS) were used, clinical tests of near convergence point (NCP) and positive fusional vergence (PFV). The participants were divided into groups with CI (G-CI) and without CI (G-SCI). Results. The sample consisted of 39 young adults, mostly female (G-CI=62.5%; G-SCI=60.9). Regarding visual habits, we observed that the G-CI showed greater symptoms related to close view (tired eyes=43.8%) and longer reading time on electronics (50%). It was observed that clinical tests were significant in the diagnosis of CI with the G-CI having the median CISS of 25, NPC 9.50 and PFV 9.0 (p<0.05) and the G-SCI the median CISS 14, NPC 8.0 and PVF 20.0 (p<0.05). Conclusion. Therefore, it is concluded that CI affects young adults and causes symptoms, which may interfere with their performance.
