Objective. To systematically review the literature on interventions for cognitive and behavioral rehabilitation of children with sleep-disordered breathing after adenotonsillectomy. Method. We searched for papers published in English, Portuguese and Spanish between 1990 and 2017, through electronic databases (Medline, PubMed, Embase, Lilacs and SciELO). Results. The search revealed a total of 1085 articles. Through reviewing these articles, 21 reports of relevance were identified. However, none of these studies proposed any intervention other than surgery, for reducing this cognitive and/or behavioral impairment. Conclusions. Although studies have demonstrated the relationship between sleep-disordered breathing and cognitive and/or behavioral deficits in children, there are no studies that propose any intervention to reduce these disorders after adenotonsillectomy. Interventions for cognitive-behavioral rehabilitation should be a complementary strategy for treating these children.
