EXILIUM – Revista de Estudos da Contemporaneidade/ Review of Contemporary Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal that welcomes, in a continuous flow, original articles and essays as well as another type of texts and various materials, according the sections profile at the end of this norms, respectively Varia, Literary, Contemporary Criticism, East/West.

The journal undertakes to publish only original material that has not been previously published or is under review in other journals, including in different languages. Articles submitted to the journal should not be submitted to any other periodical while in the evaluation process.

The Journal do not charge publication fees and published articles are available for open free access.

The author(s) must be a researcher(s) at a higher level (postgraduate onwards), with recognized performance in the respective institution of affiliation. Only in exceptional cases will non-academic material be accepted, as long sa it is by author(s) of work publicly recognized and attested by the academic and/or intellectual community of reference, as is the case of recognized and/or honorary writers and researchers.

The author(s) is (are) fully responsible for the content of their texts, including grammar and spelling corrections and revisions, and must register their institucional emails when linked.

In case of dossiers organized by guest editors, the responsibility for intellectual content of the respective edition is responsibility of the organizers, who are committed to meeting and obeying the deadlines and demands of the editorial flow established by the technical and executive teams.

All content is blind peer reviewed, consisting of two or more arbitrators who are designated to review the manuscript. Reviewers and authors are anonymised throughout the review process, but authors must send their manuscripts identified, with email, minibio and OrcID in footnotes, as it is indicated in our template.

All academic contributions are reviewed by the Editor, Area Associated Editors, Members of the Editorial Board and / or Guest Reviewers, according to the following:

Initial Review: at this stage, each manuscript is checked by their compliance with the norms set out in Instructions to Authors and Norms for Submission, including integrity, autenticity and originality verification via anti-plagiarism tool, Turnetin ( not index for repository) . If manuscripts do not meet these norms, they will be returned for correction. Manuscripts that do not pass initial review will be returned to the authors.

Evaluation Process: manuscripts that pass the initial review are assigned to two independent reviewers according to their specialisations.

Feedback: reviewers give feedback directly in the OJS system. The decision can be "Accept Submission", "Review Required", "Resubmit for Review" or "Decline Submission". If the decision is "Resubmit for Review", the manuscript must be reviewed and sent for a second round of peer review.

Approval or Rejection: Based on reviewer feedback, the Editorial Board will decide to approve or reject the manuscript. If approved, the manuscript will enter the editing process for publication.

The decision on publication rests with the editors, after examining two blind reviews by specialists in the field.

The statements issued in articles and other works are the responsibility of the authors.

Exilium welcomes texts in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, Italian and German. Articles in English, French, Italian and German will be published in Portuguese accompanied by their original version. Spanish articles will not be translated.

NORMS FOR SUBMISSION

The contribution must be original and previously unpublished, and must not be under evaluation for publication by another journal; if this is the case, this must be explained in "Comments to the editor".

Articles and other works must be submitted electronically, on the UNIFESP Journals Portal (https://periodicos.unifesp.br), or by e-mail: exilium@unifesp.br). In the case of submission to the portal, the authors must first register on the platform.

In case of citation of terms transliterated from languages spelled in other alphabets (for instance Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Chinese etc.), use standard IPA transliteration fonts and Romanise terms in the original language of the article.

Submission file must be always in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF, and we strongly suggest the use of the template for articles and APA norms. norms.

Free-form texts, other than articles or essays, do not need to respect all of these requirements. Before submitting, see what section profile fits:

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements set out in the Diretrizes para Autores, on the About the Journal page.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • References to authors and works, clarifications and interpretative notes are in the form of numerically ordered footnotes.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished and is not being evaluated for publication by any other journal.
  • The article provides abstracts in Portuguese and English of a maximum of 250 words and 5 keywords each.
  • Text uses italics rather than underlining (other than for URL addresses)
  • The information requested in the user's profile (full name, email, affiliation) is completed in full.
  • The text has a maximum of 5,000 words (review/essay) or about 9,000 words (article), including abstract, bibliographic references and footnotes.
  • Foreign language terms were transliterated and / or romanized according to the standard in the IPA table.
  • Text is according the template.
  • In case of republication, extended version or translation, the author has the rights of translation and/or publication and documents and/or express authorization to be sent to the editors.
  • If using SI tools, the author undertakes to indicate them to the editors
