Encounters in Exile the Place to Which We Can Migrate
Main Article Content
Abstract
The text revisits the trajectory of Al Mahjar project, conceived by Aziz Ab’Saber within the framework of the Arab Culture Institute (ICArabe), as a response to the growing stigmatization of Arab culture and the historical erasure of its contributions to humanity. Inspired by the legacy of Edward Saïd and his critique of Orientalism, the project aimed to document the memories of Arab immigrants and their descendants in Brazil, revealing the enduring influence of Arab culture on Brazilian identity, even prior to the major waves of migration. Bringing together researchers and partner institutions such as the Edward Saïd Chair at Unifesp, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (CCAB), and the University of Kaslik, Al Mahjar has established itself as a platform for memory, resistance, and the celebration of diversity, reaffirming the importance of Arab immigration in the shaping of the country and opens new research cycles.
