Introdução New Perspectives on the Diaspora
Main Article Content
Abstract
This dossier, which, together with other articles, makes up the current volume of Exilium, was prepared with the collaboration of anthropologists, historians, translators, sociologists, and literary scholars affiliated with institutions in different parts of Brazil and the world and at different stages of their academic careers. By bringing together diverse voices scattered across the country, its purpose is to offer new perspectives on the Arab diaspora in Brazil, contributing to the expansion of a field of study that began to establish itself in the country in the mid-1980s. Unpublished translations from Arabic—including texts considered central to Mahjar literature—the history of immigrant women journalists, the Arab world's relations with the Malês, and reflections on the process of racialization of Arabs are some of the debates that permeate this issue. This diversity of views and approaches to the theme of diaspora also reflects the trajectories of the organizers themselves: an anthropologist, a researcher of immigration literature, and a researcher linked to the world of translation. What the authors have in common is an interest in uncovering little-known nuances in this field of study.
