Abstract

The article analyzes the voluntary renunciation of employment by qualified workers living in alternative communities, identifying emerging values that constitute a critique of work and the legitimization of other references of a good life in contemporary times. The text aims to help understand the world of multiple work that exists today, indicating possible research paths regarding the renewal of criticism of work. It is stated that the moral contribution to changes in engagement in the world of work in the context studied is anchored in the ideal of authenticity, which had its criticism of labor instrumentalized by capitalism, but for the interviewees, it presents itself as the possibility of a renewed and legitimized criticism in their social universe. Such criticisms are renewed today, especially post-pandemic, through other movements, such as the Great Resignation and Quiet Quitting.
