Abstract

Here is the translation into English:

This text addresses the evolution and challenges in the management of social public policies in Brazil. It highlights fundamental concepts of social assistance as a public policy, its historical evolution since the post-World War II period, and the transition towards more decentralized and participative management. Additionally, it analyzes the progress and setbacks in the implementation of social policies, especially during the Bolsonaro government and the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. It underscores the need for more comprehensive and cross-cutting management, adapted to the multidimensional demands of vulnerable populations, and suggests the use of technological tools to enhance the effectiveness of social assistance services. The text emphasizes the importance of addressing social inequality and poverty comprehensively, taking into account the diversity of challenges present in the country's various microterritories.
