Abstract

The text describes an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional research experience carried out by various Brazilian centers, with the aim of assisting public policy managers in social protection in response to Covid-19. This effort resulted in the creation of Matrices of Social Protection Indicators of the Unified Health and Social Assistance Systems, as part of the Covid-19/PB Platform Project. The research was conducted through partnerships between institutions in Paraíba and São Paulo, led by the Center for Public Policy Studies (NEPPS) at the Federal University of Paraíba and the Laboratory for Investigation in Socio-Environmental Systems (LiSS) of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE-SJC/SP), with the collaboration of the Health Surveillance of Paraíba and the State Secretariat of Human Development of Paraíba.

Considering the increase in poverty and inequality during the pandemic, it is necessary that public investments and expenditures include actions of epidemiological surveillance and social protection measures to mitigate social and economic impacts. The text emphasizes the importance of bold financial approaches to support the most vulnerable and highlights the need for coordination between interurban studies, primary and secondary data, aiming to ensure the effectiveness of social protection policies.
