The text addresses social policy and the Regeneration Program, an initiative of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development of Chile, aimed at families in housing complexes on the outskirts of the metropolitan region of Santiago, who received social housing starting in the 1990s and faced high levels of social, urban, and habitability issues.
The article contextualizes the issue of social housing in Chile and the existing public policies, highlighting the complementarity to subsidiarity and marketization, which are inaccessible to the vulnerable population. It analyzes the process of implementing the regeneration program, focusing on social intervention, the inclusion of affected families, and the interaction with SERVIU professionals and technicians.
Finally, it describes the redefinition of social work, which transitions from an identity based on institutional knowledge to an identity built on the collective knowledge of other professionals and the families themselves, creating a specific knowledge of contemporary social work.
