Abstract

Recently, the citizen attention in monitoring the actions of managers and others responsible for the secretariats of a municipality have increased. In the search for superior performance, the training of managers becomes a key factor in any organization. In this sense, this article presents a reflection on training for the exercise of public management. Through telematized bibliographic research, the study focused on national and international concepts and trends. The literature confirms the need for constant review of the role of managers, both in the private and public sectors. In both segments, those who deal with teams must have an interest in improvement, in the search for team engagement and commitment. As a highlight, the self-knowledge generally used in the private sector to create competitive advantage, offers a starting point to recognize strengths to be leveraged, preferences, needs and opportunities for improvement. Thus, it is suggested the development of more assertive training programs, aimed at meeting the needs of internal and external customers, covering technical and behavioral skills. However, in the public area, the challenge is even greater due to the often temporary feature of the function and scarcity of resources. To transform the reality of the citizens of the south of Rio de Janeiro State, training programs created to develop characteristics such as resilience in team management in public administration could be the solution, according to the market trends investigated in this study.
