Abstract

This article aims to foster research on art, image, and Protestantism based on the bibliography of art history canons. The topic is explored through the work of Aby Warburg, convening him as the Didi-Hubermannian dibuk. The article seeks to understand how Warburg grasped and connected to the period through biographical aspects and the Nachleben der Antike. Lucas Cranach the Elder's work "Law and Grace," considered the image of the Reformation, is compared with Charlotte Reilen's pietist illustration "The Broad and Narrow Way." The heuristic tools that emerge from Warburg's thought for the respective analysis are considered, but safeguarding Belting's advice to translate it to our time. It is evident how these iconographic models and the visual practices organized by the iconoclastic image policy of the period contribute to the formation of a visual culture produced by evangelicals in postmodernity, especially in the strategies of subordinating the image to the word.
