Abstract

The objective of this work is to show that Popperian falsification is an extreme type of reasoning control. The ‘skeleton of ordinary reasoning’ is shown to approach that purpose, starting from the consideration that a statement q can be a consequence of another p ‘If p, then q’, abbreviated, p <q, denoting < the inference relation, a relation that. Since the conditional statement is not understood in the same way in all the contexts covered by the language, it will be assumed primitive and, therefore, must be approached correspondingly in each case. This standpoint will allow examining falsifiability from the formal concepts of refutation and speculation, allowing a new look at the demarcation criterion and cast doubt on the identification between ‘conjecture’ and ‘hypothesis’ by showing various kinds of conjecture.

Es Dr. H. C. por las Universidades Pública de Navarra y Santiago de Compostela, España. Su ámbito de trabajo es la lógica borrosa.

    Alejandro Sobrino Cerdeiriña es doctor en Filosofía por la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela y catedrático de Lógica y Filosofía de la Ciencia de esa misma Universidad. Ha sido investigador colaborador del European Centre for Soft Computing. Su ámbito de trabajo es el procesamiento del lenguaje natural vago.
