Abstract

This work seeks to contribute to clarifying the mechanistic nature of computerized culture and technology, and its link to mechanical philosophy. To this end, a detailed conceptual and historical investigation is carried out to assert that the definition of the theoretical concept of computation belongs to rational mechanics. Subsequently, it engages with canonical works on the history of mechanics and their critical revisions, with the dual aim of accurately defining the singularity of modern rational mechanics, on the one hand, and the mechanism that arose from it, on the other. All of this allows us to explain why the digital and computational philosophies that developed around the theoretical science of computing are mechanistic.
