Resumo

Prurido é um sintoma comum e complexo. Mais do que qualquer outra modalidade sensitiva ele é influenciado pelo estado emocional e por alterações ambientais. Prurido resulta de ativação direta dos nociceptores na pele em resposta à lesão tecidual e está associado à ativação dos receptores opióides no sistema nervoso central. Avanços recentes no entendimento dos mecanismos que levam à sensação de prurido têm permitido medidas terapêuticas mais efetivas, especialmente nos pacientes com colestase.
