El ejercicio físico en las alteraciones neurológicas derivadas de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2

Objetivo. Demostrar la importancia del ejercicio y la intervención fisioterapéutica en pacientes con diabetes como medida preventiva ante futuras repercusiones y promotora de una mejor calidad de vida. Métodos. Revisión sistemática basada en ensayos clínicos aleatorizados de los últimos 10 años encontrados en las bases de datos: PUBMED, SCIELO y LILACS, a través de palabras clave descritas en los DeCs: Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2, Ejercicio físico, Fisioterapia, Neuropatías diabéticas y prevención. La estrategia adoptada se repitió en todas las bases de datos, en los tres idiomas: portugués, inglés y español. Posteriormente, los estudios fueron evaluados y clasificados mediante la escala de Jadad. Resultados. Se identificaron un total de 5.218 estudios, que inicialmente cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión y filtros de búsqueda utilizados. De estos, sólo 66 estudios realmente se relacionaron con el alcance de la presente revisión y se clasificaron en un segundo análisis. Posteriormente, los trabajos fueron sometidos a una evaluación clasificatoria, donde solo se incluyeron y analizaron en su totalidad 15 estudios. Todos los estudios incluidos abordaron el tratamiento de la enfermedad con diferentes modalidades, frecuencia e intensidad del ejercicio. Conclusión. Que el ejercicio puede traer resultados positivos sobre las estructuras musculoesqueléticas y biomecánicas de pacientes con neuropatía diabética, evidenciado por los resultados funcionales identificados, sin embargo, se necesitan más estudios, con mayores poblaciones y duraciones para poder resaltar el beneficio del ejercicio sobre la calidad de vida de estos individuos y a través de la progresión de esta enfermedad.
