Perda auditiva e função cognitiva em idosos: uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

Introdução. A perda auditiva em função do envelhecimento tem caráter progressivo, simétrico, bilateral e sensorioneural, afetando negativamente a participação social, a saúde mental e até questões ocupacionais. Objetivo. Avaliar as evidências em saúde na relação existente entre perda auditiva e declínio cognitivo em idosos. Método. Foi conduzida uma revisão sistemática (PRISMA), nas bases de dados Medline, LILACS, Scopus, Science Direct, busca manual e na literatura cinza, selecionando-se estudos publicados no período de 2010 a maio de 2020. Os artigos foram selecionados por dois pesquisadores independentes. Foram extraídos dados referentes às principais características dos estudos, incluindo características demográficas, tipo de estudo, avaliações realizadas, componentes avaliados e resultados obtidos. Além disso, foi avaliada a qualidade metodológica dos estudos incluídos na revisão sistemática. Resultados. Dos 218 estudos identificados nas bases de dados, apenas cinco foram incluídos na revisão sistemática. Em relação à qualidade metodológica dos artigos incluídos, a média obtida foi de 12 pontos, sendo categorizada como de alta qualidade.   Conclusão. A maioria dos estudos demonstrou associação entre perda auditiva e declínio cognitivo, destacando que a reabilitação auditiva é uma importante ação de prevenção ao estabelecimento da demência. A relação entre a perda auditiva e declínio cognitivo, assim como de um possível caminho causal, torna-se essencial para o planejamento de políticas públicas em busca de um envelhecimento ativo e saudável da população.
