Exercício físico e funcionalidade de pessoas com LME: Revisão Integrativa

Resumo

Introdução. A prática de exercício físico pode contribuir positivamente para aumentar a funcionalidade, autoeficácia, auxiliar no processo de recuperação, independência e socialização da pessoa, além de contribuir para combater o sedentarismo e as comorbidades envolvidas. Objetivo. Realizar o levantamento bibliográfico sobre o impacto do exercício físico na funcionalidade de pessoas com Lesão Medular Espinhal.  Método. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, construída segundo os critérios do PRISMA. As bases de dados utilizadas foram Cochrane, PubMed, Scielo e Pedro utilizando os seguintes descritores: Lesão Medular Espinhal, aptidão física, estado funcional e exercício físico na língua portuguesa do Brasil e suas respectivas traduções na língua inglesa. Resultados. Foram levantados 351 artigos nas bases de dados, dos quais, 20 compõem a revisão. A amostra dos estudos selecionados foi composta por 756 pessoas, com lesões completas e incompletas, tetraplégicos e paraplégicos. Manter-se ativo eleva a autoeficácia no exercício, a participação social, promove engajamento e satisfação, melhora do desempenho físico e funcional. Conclusão. O exercício físico não só permite manter um melhor estado de saúde, prevenindo doenças crônicas, mas também desempenha um papel importante na melhoria do funcionamento físico, mental e social, bem como na melhoria da qualidade de vida e na satisfação de uma pessoa com LME.
