Resumo

Fasciculações são resultantes de descargas espontâneas de unidades motoras, mas o local de origem dessas descargas e seu mecanismo fisiológico permanecem incertos e controversos. Muitos autores têm defendido uma origem central para essas descargas anormais nas células do corno anterior. Entretanto, a maioria das evidências favorece a origem periférica no terminal intramuscular do nervo motor. As fasciculações são observadas em pacientes com doenças neurológicas e em pessoas sadias. A gabapentina tem sido considerada uma alternativa segura para o tratamento das fasciculações.
