O papel da vitamina D na regulação do ciclo sono-vigília

Introdução. A vitamina D exerce diversas funções no organismo, incluindo a regulação do ciclo sono-vigília, visto que sua deficiência está associada a distúrbios do sono. Entretanto, os mecanismos biológicos para esse controle não são totalmente conhecidos. Objetivo. Analisar os principais mecanismos de atuação da vitamina D na regulação do ciclo sono-vigília. Método. Revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada com pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados Scielo, Pubmed e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, com os seguintes descritores retirados das plataformas DeCS e MeSH: “vitamin D”, “sleep”, “vitamina D” e “sono”. Foram incluídos trabalhos publicados nos últimos 5 anos e com textos completos. Resultados. Após revisão pormenorizada dos 476 resultados obtidos, foram selecionados 23 artigos para compor esta revisão. As principais hipóteses encontradas para explicar a regulação da vitamina D sobre o ciclo sono-vigília incluíram sua participação na síntese de melatonina e de neurotransmissores essenciais para as vias neurais envolvidas no ciclo sono-vigília, assim como no desenvolvimento dos neurônios que integram essas vias. Ademais, postula-se seu papel na modulação imunológica e na desintoxicação do sistema nervoso central. Conclusão. Evidencia-se a importância de compreender os possíveis mecanismos de regulação do ciclo sono-vigília pela vitamina D, principalmente pela possibilidade de explorar a fisiopatologia dos distúrbios do sono. Porém, mais estudos são necessários para esclarecer outros possíveis mecanismos de regulação.
