Os autores realizam uma revisão histórica evolutiva da hidroterapia como método alternativo para tratamento de pessoas com limitação física. Esta é uma forma antiga de tratamento que passou por várias fases de aceitação e credibilidade. Atualmente, a hidroterapia tem recebido grande prestígio, especialmente na reabilitação de pacientes portadores de doenças neurológicas, relacionada particularmente com a introdução de métodos modernos como o Bad Ragaz, Halliwick e Watsu.
