Abstract

The special issue "Democracy in Brazilian Political Thought" is aimed to gather works exploring the presence and use of the concept of democracy within Brazilian political thought, from distinct theoretical and methodological perspectives. The five articles that make up this dossier are organized chronologically according to the period each text addresses. This arrangement aims to clarify the historical framing of debates on democracy in Brazil. The theme of democracy, approached from different angles, runs through all the works presented here, which cover various authors, their ideas, and the debates they were involved in. Eduardo Prado, Francisco Campos and Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, Celso Furtado, Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Florestan Fernandes, and Luiz Werneck Vianna are the authors/actors analyzed in these texts. This thematic issue also helps us reflect, based on the historical developments, on the future directions for the current discussion about democracy, given the immense contemporary challenges.
