Abstract

The paper starts from a hypothetical situation defined by three assumptions: someone is a Marxist and wants to remain so, but he/she does not want to forego the theoretical resources offered by the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, even if he/she thinks that the use of these resources can be more detrimental than beneficial to his/her Marxism. Under these conditions, what to do to get the benefits and avert the damages? To begin, how may one keep both Marx and Lacan? How may we remain committed to militant Marxism when crossing the tempting Lacanian skepticism? How to prevent psychoanalytic questioning from eroding and weakening our revolutionary critical position? And beyond this, can we get the opposite? Is it possible to sharpen and reinvigorate our Marxism with the force of Lacanian psychoanalysis?

Keywords: Marxism, psychoanalysis, Lacan.
