Journal History
Heródoto – Journal of the Research Group on Classical Antiquity and its Afro-Asian Connections originated from the research interests of scholars of the classical world who examine it through its connections with African and Asian worlds known in Antiquity.
With the aim of contributing to existing scholarship in this field, the research developed by the group pursues two main objectives:
- To highlight the mutual and non-hierarchical influences between Greco-Roman and Afro-Asian cultures—considering, beyond relations of acceptance and domination, dynamics such as assimilation, adaptation, conflict, negotiation, and resistance in the context of cultural contact.
- To point out the influence of theoretical frameworks such as Eurocentrism, Afrocentrism, and Asianism on historiographical production concerning the ancient world.
