Resumen
O presente ensaio propõe-se a analisar e refletir sobre a figura de Kemal Atatürk. Sua presença, ainda que imagética, permanece na Turquia contemporânea. Geograficamente entre o Ocidente e o Oriente, a Turquia a partir de Kemal se formou sob a influência dos dois imaginários. Ao destacar os pontos-chave da biografia do líder turco durante sua carreira militar e como estadista, busca-se resgatar os eventos e teorias do início do século XX, os quais vão moldar não somente a atuação de Kemal, mas também a formação da própria Turquia como Estado-nação. Atatürk mobilizou elementos da identidade turca e islâmica para fins políticos e militares. Em um segundo momento, promoveu a criação de um Estado-nação turco secular. As suas reformas são vistas como uma tentativa de desenvolvimento no contexto do capitalismo global, e a ambiguidade reflete a complexidade da posição geopolítica e das questões de identidade do país.
