Abstract
This text introduces and republishes the editorial “To the American People,” originally published in October 1947 in the magazine O Oriente, edited by the Brazilian journalist and writer of Syrian origin Mussa Kuraiem (1894–1974). Written on the eve of UN Resolution 181, which established the partition of Palestine, the manifesto reveals the commitment of Arab-descendant intellectuals living in São Paulo to the anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggle in Palestine, while deconstructing some of the founding myths of Zionism. The republication of this editorial seeks to demonstrate how these intellectuals understood and explained to the Brazilian public the effects of Zionism and colonialism in Palestine at the moment when the Nakba, or catastrophe, unfolded.
