Call for Papers for the dossier “Challenges and Possibilities for Sustainable Development,” Ciências Sociais em Revista (CSR).

The journal Ciências Sociais em Revista (CSR) is now accepting submissions for the dossier Challenges and Possibilities for Sustainable Development, organized by Thales Haddad Novaes de Andrade (UFSCar) and Nathália Gonçalves Zaparolli (UFSCar). Contributions must be submitted by February 15, 2027.

About the dossier “Challenges and Possibilities for Sustainable Development”:

This dossier proposes a critical reflection on the limits and possibilities of federalism in the face of contemporary crises such as climate change, regional inequalities, and current political and economic conflicts. The discussion focuses on the relationship between state capacities, multilevel governance, and sustainable development, considering how the territorial distribution of resources and competencies shapes public policies and their social impacts. The aim is to bring together empirical and theoretical analyses that explore the dilemmas of decentralization, the challenges of intergovernmental coordination, and institutional innovations capable of reducing inequalities and promoting sustainability.

Accordingly, research topics should include: a) Federalism and Multilevel Governance: The role of federalism in promoting effective governance in countries characterized by strong regional and cultural diversity. b) Institutional and Political Challenges in Federalism: Institutional challenges in federalism, such as asymmetries among constituent units and coordination across different levels of government, with particular attention to the role of local elites and politics in the process of decentralization and its effects on development. c) State Capacities, Federalism, and Sustainable Development: The role of state capacities in promoting sustainable development policies.

The dossier welcomes national and international empirical research, as well as comparative studies employing a variety of methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative analyses, as well as theoretical articles addressing contemporary debates on the topic. The dossier is expected to contribute to enriching academic debate and providing input for public policies in response to global and national challenges.

Prof. Nathália Gonçalves Zaparolli – PhD in Political Science from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar).

Submissions, which will undergo double-blind peer review, must comply with the Author Guidelines and be submitted through the journal’s website.

Call for Papers for the dossier “Digital Culture and Generations,” Ciências Sociais em Revista (CSR).

The journal Ciências Sociais em Revista (CSR) opened a call for submissions for the dossier Digital Culture and Generations, organized by Simone Pereira Costa Dourado (UEM) and Márcia Stengel (PUC-MG). Contributions were due by June 1, 2026.

About the dossier “Digital Culture and Generations”:

The dossier aimed to bring together research focused on different forms of sociability mediated by digital technologies, with an emphasis on the generational implications of these interactions. The proposal sought to bring together studies that contribute to expanding the debate on the relationship between individual and society in the context of digital culture, emphasizing the perspective that cultural data do not correspond to biological data and that understanding the phenomenon of generations requires tracing the social contexts in which individuals are embedded.

Articles describing and analyzing, through different research methodologies, experiences related to generations and their forms of virtual sociability were welcome. These analyses could be further developed through approaches considering gender, race, and social class.
