Abstract

This article deals with the creation of financial administration in
Portuguese America through the foundation of the “Juntas da Real
Fazenda” in the second half of the eighteenth century. We are concerned
here mainly with the mutations of these specific divisions of the Pombalian
policies for modernization and centralization of tax control by the
Portuguese overseas Empire, which functioned, simultaneously, as treasury
and court.
