Resumo

A trombólise foi a primeira estratégia eficaz no tratamento do acidente vascular cerebral (AVC) isquêmico agudo. Desde sua aprovação em 1996 nos Estados Unidos e em 2001 no Brasil, sua utilização tem crescido exponencialmente. Apesar de sua eficácia, poucos pacientes são candidatos ao tratamento, mas novas técnicas de terapia intra-arterial, triagem por neuroimagem e de potencialização da trombólise por ultra-som prometem aumentar ainda mais a proporção de pacientes beneficiados.
