O sistema extrapiramidal é formado pelo tálamo, cerebelo e gânglios da base. Estas estruturas, através de suas conexões, estão envolvidas em vários processos, inclusive a modulação do controle motor. A disfunção de estruturas do sistema extrapiramidal associa-se a transtornos dos movimentos. Este artigo traz algumas atualizações sobre os principais circuitos extrapiramidais e suas implicações nos distúrbios dos movimentos.
