Associação da obesidade com mortes por COVID-19: uma revisão narrativa

Resumo

Introdução. A obesidade mostrou aumentar a vulnerabilidade a infecções, servindo como um fator de risco entre a taxa de mortalidade de pacientes com COVID-19. Objetivo. Apresenta como objetivo verificar a associação da obesidade com mortes por COVID-19.  Método. A busca por artigos científicos foi conduzida por dois pesquisadores independentes nas bases de dados Medline (Pubmed), LILACS, SciELO, Web Of Science, Bireme e Scopus, sem restrição de idioma, período e localização. Para complementar e evitar viés de risco foi realizada uma busca por literatura cinza no Google Scholar. Foram inclusos na pesquisa estudos que obtiveram pontuação ≥ a 6 pontos segundo o protocolo para pontuação qualitativa proposto por Pithon et al. Resultados: Os estudos mostram que a obesidade desempenha um papel significativo no risco de morte por COVID-19. Em pacientes que morreram devido à COVID-19, a obesidade está associada a um aumento da probabilidade de complicações não respiratórias. Além disso, a COVID-19 aumentou o risco de mortalidade em pacientes que apresentam obesidade quase cinco vezes mais.  Conclusão. Os efeitos do Índice de Massa Corporal em pacientes que apresentam obesidade foram associados à maior letalidade quando diagnosticados com a COVID-19.  Pacientes com obesidade, especialmente aqueles com obesidade grave, devem tomar precauções extras para evitar a contaminação por COVID-19 durante a pandemia.
