Resumo

A Doença Cerebrovascular (DCV) e Síndrome da Apnéia do Sono (SAHOS) são entidades consideradas como importante agravo à saúde pública. Por anos, aproximadamente 500.000 casos novos de AVC são notificados gerando 175.000 óbitos na América do Norte. No mesmo período 2–4% da população adulta são diagnosticados como portadores da SAHOS. A SAHOS e a DCV são interligadas, quase sempre, aos mesmos fatores de riscos, como hipertensão arterial, doença cardiovascular, idade, obesidade, diabetes mellitus e tabagismo. Cresce a evidência de que a SAHOS seja um fator de risco independente para as doenças cardiovasculares e neurovasculares e que deve ser sistematicamente investigada no momento de sua suspeita. Até o momento, existem poucos trabalhos utilizando o CPAP em pacientes com AVC e SAHOS. Com este objetivo, realizamos uma revisão da literatura sobre a relação entre SAHOS e DCV e a utilização do aparelho de pressão positiva contínua (CPAP) no tratamento de pacientes diagnosticados com SAHOS e AVC.
