Construction and validation of an educational guide for preventing falls in the elderly

Introduction. The world scenario is undergoing a transformation in its demographic profile, with a notable increase in the number of elderly people. Longevity brings with it physiological changes natural to aging, such as decreased muscle strength. In addition to these changes, there are factors that increase the risk of falls among this population, episodes that can result in injuries, such as fractures. To reduce this risk, some interventions, such as physical exercise and health education, are essential. The use of educational guides adds to these measures, offering clear and objective content that expands individuals' understanding of falls prevention. Objective. To describe the construction and validation of an educational guide for fall prevention. Method. This is an exploratory-methodological study focused on the development of educational technologies in health, carried out between January and October 2024, and divided into five stages: exploration of reality, literature review, technology construction, validation and review. Results. The guide obtained an overall Content Validity Index (CVI) of 0.96 among healthcare experts and a Semantic Validity Index (SVI) of 1.00 among the target audience. Suggestions for improvement made by experts were incorporated into the final version of the material. Conclusion. The guide was validated in terms of content and semantics, proving to be a valuable resource for educational activities and potentially effective in preventing falls among the elderly.
